Mandatory Credit: Michael McLoone-Imagn Image After losing each of their games on February 11 and posting the third-longest skid in club history, the Chicago Bulls are looking forward to a fresh start in the new month.
To make March even more enjoyable, the Bulls will aim to improve their balance and execution in the second half of games, starting with Sunday’s visit from the Milwaukee Bucks.
“Winning plays are important,” Chicago coach Billy Donovan said. “Failed blocks, turnovers. Reaching and being a little undisciplined, fouling when we didn’t have to. … We worked hard to make winning plays. When adversity comes, we have to be able to compete better.”
Milwaukee can sweep the four-game series of the season with a win. The Bucks are 7-3 in their last 10 games against their Central Division rivals, including a 131-115 home win over the Bulls on Feb. 3.
Kyle Kuzma (31 points, 10 rebounds) and Ryan Rollins (21 points, 10 assists) both recorded double-doubles for the Bucks. Matas Buzelis led Chicago with 22 points.
A jaunt to nearby Chicago is a rare sight away from Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum. The Bucks ended their 2-2 homestand with a 127-98 loss to the New York Knicks on Friday and will play their fifth straight game at home after Sunday.
Milwaukee is fighting for the 10th seed in the Eastern Conference and the final spot in the Eastern Play-In Tournament. Still without star Giannis Antetokounmpo, who missed the last 14 games with a right calf injury, the Bucks had five double-digit scorers against the Knicks but committed 16 turnovers and shot 42.9 percent.
“We’ve got to run the set,” said Rollins, who accounted for five of the turnovers. “And even when you don’t have a fast break opportunity, find a way to get in and get the ball into the middle and create offense from there.”
Myles Turner led the Bucks with 19 points and Kevin Porter Jr. had 11 points and 10 assists.
“Where we are right now, we can’t do anything. Even if we win, we have to go to the next match,” Rollins said. “We had to flush it out because every game is its own battle. We had a good chance on Sunday.”
The only losses the Bulls have had in 11 games have been by double digits, including four at home, a 121-112 loss to Portland on Thursday.
After Leonard Miller’s dunk made it 108-105 with 3:37 remaining, Chicago outscored 13-7 the rest of the way.
Buzelis scored 20 points to pace the Bulls and has been the team’s top scorer in the last three games, taking on more responsibility following Chicago’s flurry of activity at the trade deadline.
Josh Gidey had 15 points, his second double-digit score in five games since returning from a hamstring injury on Feb. 19.
Gidey averaged 14.8 points, 9 rebounds and 7.8 assists over the last five games with the Bucks, but missed the Feb. 3 game due to injury.
Chicago has not lost four straight games to Milwaukee since the 2021-22 season.
