Actis sends Origen to Grupo Romero

Sustainable infrastructure investor Actis has finalized the sale of Peruvian power generation company Origin, to Grupo Romero.

The transaction was completed through an affiliate managed by InfraCorp, the energy and infrastructure investment arm of Grupo Romero, one of Peru’s leading conglomerates.

Origin is Peru’s second largest power generation platform with a total installed capacity of 2.3GW diversified across wind, solar, hydropower and thermal gas assets.

Owned by Actis since its inception in 2024, Origin is positioned as a leader in renewable energy in Peru, following Enel’s stake in Enel Generación Perú and full ownership of Compañía Energética Veracruz.

Developments under Actis include the completion of Vaira 2, a 177 MW wind farm, and the 100 MW peak solar project at Vaira Solar.

Origin also secured more than 1.7 terawatt hours of renewable energy from third-party developers last year, increasing its appeal to commercial and industrial customers in Peru.

A notable achievement during this period was the issuance of a $1.2bn (4.13bn New Sol) investment grade bond due in September 2024.

The bond marked Peru’s largest single Peruvian private corporate bond sale at the time and represented Actis’ largest capital markets debt initiative.

The bond issuance significantly improved Origin’s financial structure and demonstrated investor confidence in its strategic direction and asset quality.

Actis’ efforts aimed at digital transformation, strategic positioning, business growth and capital structure optimization have strengthened Origin’s position in the national energy sector.

These initiatives guided the company towards a rapid exit strategy.

Actis Energy Infrastructure Managing Director Nicolas Escalon said: “From the start, Origin reflected the opportunity Actis was looking for: proactively sourcing high-quality businesses, often before they hit the market, and applying our operational and financial expertise to create further value.

“In less than two years, we have strengthened the platform to a market leader and crystallized significant value for our investors.”

Across its extensive operations, Actis has invested $11bn in the global energy sector since its inception and manages $8.5bn in energy assets.

The company has developed, operated or contracted around 42GW of capacity worldwide and has successfully exited more than 50 investments in real assets.

In December 2025, the Mubadala investment company partnered with Actis, to support Resolv Energy, an independent renewable platform in Central and Eastern Europe, with a commitment of around 300 million euros ($351.25 million).
