Mandatory Credit: Sam Navarro-Imagn Images Kel’el Ware tied career highs with 16 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks and added five steals to help the host Miami Heat beat the Brooklyn Nets 126-110 on Thursday night.
Michael Porter Jr. led Brooklyn with game-highs in scoring (27) and rebounds (13).
The Heat, who are on a three-game winning streak, also got 25 points from Tyler Herro and 21 points from Bam Adebayo. Miami played all three of its wins without leading scorer Norman Powell (groin injury).
Brooklyn has lost 10 straight games, setting the record for the NBA’s longest skid. The Nets also fell behind after three quarters, falling to 1-40.
Additionally, the Nets were swept 3-0 in a season series against Miami for the first time since 2016-2017.
The Nets, who committed seven turnovers in the first four-plus minutes, went on a 9-0 run to take a 20-18 lead with 3:59 left in the first half.
However, by the end of the first quarter, Miami was ahead 31-26 thanks to Adebayo’s 11 points. Brooklyn actually shot the ball better. He was 50% overall and 4-for-6 on 3-point attempts. Miami shot 44% overall and 2-for-9 from deep.
There was a 15-4 Nets run in the second quarter, but Miami still led 60-56 at halftime.
Both teams shot at similar percentages from the field in the first half, but the Heat scored 15 points off 11 net turnovers. Brooklyn scored just eight points on Miami’s seven miscues.
The Heat ran into trouble in the third quarter when Adebayo committed two fouls, one offensive and one defensive, in 12 seconds. With 6 minutes and 56 seconds left in the third quarter, he was benched with five fouls and the score was tied at 72.
But despite being without Adebayo for the remainder of the quarter, Miami took a 95-83 lead and the Heat cruised through the remainder of the period.
In the game, the Heat had a 68-48 advantage in points in the paint and a 19-6 advantage in fast break points. Miami also outscored Brooklyn 24-13 in turnover points.
