The college football offseason is a cycle with relatively little news. But on Thursday, a big, new bombshell dropped.
The NCAA has reportedly decided to appeal the case against Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, a month after it was dismissed. Chambliss’ 2026 is now in jeopardy as the NCAA aims to push this case further.

Chambliss received a restraining order in February on the basis that the NCAA ignored “evidence” about Chambliss’ medical situation. He missed the entire season at Ferris State because of this before transferring to Ole Miss.

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss speaks with supporters after a hearing in Chambliss’ lawsuit against the NCAA at the Calhoun County Courthouse in Pittsboro, Mississippi, Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026. Chambliss was granted a preliminary injunction against the NCAA.
However, there were some suspicious circumstances in the court. First of all, the judge presiding over it is an Ole Miss alumnus.
Another cause for concern was claims that Chambliss had contracted football players to referee during recess. This is highly questionable considering the circumstances of the judge’s ruling.

The NCAA may aim to determine whether these are conflicts of interest in order to hear the case. They reportedly want this case to proceed quickly.
If the appeals court rules in Chambliss’ favor, he and Ole Miss will lose college football in 2026. His professional career will also be in jeopardy as he did not participate in the NFL Scouting Combine.
There could potentially be twists and turns in NCAA vs. Chambliss. Will the NCAA win this appeal?
