Sean Walker, Andrei Svechnikov and Sebastian Aho all had one goal and one assist, while Seth Jarvis registered two assists for Carolina, which is on an 11-1-2 roll.
Hurricanes goaltender Brandon Bussi made 18 saves and earned his 25th career win in his 29th NHL game. He is the fastest goalie in league history to reach 25 wins.
Filip Hronek had one goal in a three-point outing and Marco Rossi had one goal and one assist for the Canucks, who are winless in seven games (0-5-2) and have just two wins in 23 outings (2-17-4).
Brock Boeser and Nils Hoglander also scored. Elias Pettersson had two assists.
Starting goalie Kevin Lankinen was pulled after giving up four goals on 22 shots. Nikita Tolopilo took the loss despite stopping 9 of 10 shots he faced.
Vancouver led 2-1 after one period before Walker set up Carolina’s comeback and a four-goal second period with 2:30 to play. He buried a shot near the left faceoff spot to tie the game.
Ehlers put the Hurricanes ahead less than two minutes later when he got his chance on a rush.
Aho extended the edge with a lifted backhand from the slot on another rush up ice at 11:53 of the middle period, which marked the end of Lankinen’s action.
Ehlers made it 5-2 57 seconds later with a short side shot during a partial breakaway.
To their credit, the Canucks fought back. Bosser buried a power-play goal with 43 seconds left in the second period to get the hosts within two quarters, and Hoglander made it a one-goal game at 6:45 in the third, his first of the season.
But Ehlers sealed the game with an empty-net goal in the final minute to complete his seventh career hat trick.
Despite being outmatched, the Canucks held the lead after the first period. Vancouver scored a pair of goals 44 seconds apart in the second half as Svechnikov opened the scoring on a power play just 77 seconds into the game.
Rossi tied the clash with a power play goal at 16:31 and Hronek hit a one-timer from the right circle.
Vancouver, last place in the league, traded defender Tyler Myers this morning. The Canucks received two draft picks from the Dallas Stars.
