Max Blumenthal Turning Point USA Deceptively Accuses Slain Conservative Activist of Regime Change Supporter
The conservative group Turning Point USA (TPUSA) has accused journalist Max Blumenthal of misrepresenting the position of its late co-founder Charlie Kirk in order to defend a US-Israeli war on Iran.
Popular podcaster Kirk was killed by a sniper last September while speaking at a college in Utah. His widow Erica Kirk has assumed leadership of TPUSA.
On Monday, two days after the US began conducting airstrikes in Iran, TPUSA posted a video on X of Kirk praising Iran’s Westernization, which continued until the Shah was overthrown in the 1979 Islamic Revolution. “If you are really serious about protecting human rights, you want to Westernize Iran again.” Kirk says in the clip.

The Post received a community note saying the clip predates Kirk’s statement from June 2025, in which he called for regime change in Iran. “Pathologically insane.”
“TPUSA identifies community for deliberately misrepresenting Charlie Kirk’s strong opposition to US war on Iran” Blumenthal wrote in response to the note.
Although Kirk supports President Donald Trump’s decision to strike Iran’s nuclear sites in June 2025, he warned hawkish Republicans that intervention could lead to the overthrow of Iran’s government. “Intended and Unintended Consequences.”

“How do you know it’s going to get better? Yes, the Ayatollah is awful but maybe he’s one of the few people who can keep that country together and not have a 90 million person civil war.” Kirk said on his podcast last year that the collapse of the government could trigger sectarian violence and a wave of refugees into Europe.
Trump has publicly supported the protests and riots that began in Iran in December and urged Iranians opposed to the government to use the ongoing airstrikes as an opportunity to seize power.
