MARA Holdings, one of the world’s largest bitcoin mining companies, has denied claims that it plans to offload most of its bitcoin holdings following speculation about a change in its treasury policy.
The clarification came in a post on X from MARA’s vice president of investor relations, Robert Samuels, who said the company has not changed its original Bitcoin (BTC) treasury approach.
His comments were a direct response to SwanDesk consultant Jacob King, who said on Tuesday that MARA had switched to a bearish selling strategy, citing the US Securities and Exchange Commission. At the time of writing, King’s post had more than 325,000 views.
Samuels pointed to the company’s 2026 10-K filing, which states that MARA has expanded its policy to allow potential sales of Bitcoin on its balance sheet.

“Our 2026 10-K clearly states that we have expanded our strategy to allow the sale of bitcoins on our balance sheet,” Samuels wrote.
As Cointelegraph initially reported, the offering allows for discretionary transactions based on market conditions and capital allocation preferences, rather than stock drawdowns.
The difference, Samuels said, is between voluntary retention and commitment to a material decline in Bitcoin’s treasury assets.
MARA has historically positioned itself as a long-term holder of Bitcoin, closely monitoring any changes in its treasury strategy by investors and market participants.

MARA doubles diversification while maintaining a large BTC pool
While MARA has expanded its operations in recent years, its balance sheet is heavily influenced by bitcoin.
This diversification accelerated last month when MARA acquired a 64% stake in Exaion, a French computing infrastructure company focused on high-performance computing and blockchain services.
However, Bitcoin remains central to MARA’s balance sheet. The company has 53,822 BTC, worth about $3.7 billion, making it the largest Bitcoin miner by volume.

In total, only Michael Saylor’s Strategy has more among public companies, with over 720,000 BTC raised to date.
