LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil covered a variety of topics at Tuesday’s press conference ahead of HSBC LIV Golf Hong Kong 2026. Notably, another announcement was teased later this week.

When asked about the specific location of the Korean competition in late May, O’Neill answered shyly.

“I don’t want to spoil the news because it’s going to be released on Friday, but we’re locked in and we’re going to release it on Friday,” he said. “Or maybe they whisper it behind their backs, but not in front of everyone.”

O’Neil also spoke about the impact on the local golf community and the broader growth of the sport in Asia.

“I would say what we’re looking for when we come to Hong Kong is what we’ve had over the last two years here: passionate fans, new fans in terms of the opportunity to grow the game,” he said. “Families, getting clubs into the hands of more kids, getting the opportunity to have some of the biggest stars in golf, Bryson DeChambeau, Joaquin Niemann, Tyrrell Hatton, come in and hopefully make an impact. When you think about that moment when you were a kid, that moment when you fell in love with a sport, that moment when you fell in love with an athlete or a team, we hope that some of those sparks happen today.

“You’ll see it on the first tee. I encourage you to go and see it, because many of you can go to the first tee any day of the four days. Go and see it. There’s usually kids lining up, and you see the icons and stars of the game walking up to them, and you see the look in their eyes. You know, for that person, we’ve made a difference. We’re here to grow the game and grow the fans. I think there’s a great opportunity, and I hope so. The next four days. For a while.”

O’Neill also touched on the future of the Hong Kong tournament next year, noting that it will be held from February 18 to 21, 2027.

“Hong Kong is a cornerstone of our international calendar and an important gateway for golf’s continued growth in Asia. As the World Golf League, LIV Golf is committed to investing in dynamic markets like Hong Kong where sport, entertainment and culture are celebrated and recognized globally,” said O’Neil.
