Mandatory Credit: Steven Bisig-Imagn Image Braeden Carrington came off the bench Saturday to score a career-high 32 points and Wisconsin hit 17 3-pointers to lead Wisconsin to a 90-73 Big Ten Conference road win over Washington in Seattle.
Nick Boyd added 22 points, nine rebounds and five assists for the Badgers (20-9, 12-6 Big Ten) and Nolan Winter had 13 points and nine rebounds. Wisconsin made 44.7% of its 38 3-point attempts, with Carrington making 9 of 15.
Freshman Hannes Steinbach led the Huskies (14-15, 6-12) with 22 points and 11 rebounds. It was his 18th double-double of the season and the most by a Big Ten player since Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger compiled the same total 29 years ago. Zoom Diallo had 21 points.
Washington shot 46 percent from the field but couldn’t stop the Badgers’ strong perimeter game. Wisconsin, bouncing back from an 85-71 loss at Oregon on Wednesday night, had a 39-35 edge on the boards and had just six turnovers.
The final margin gave the Huskies some credit. The Badgers led by as many as 28 points in the second half and made the margin even nicer by clearing the bench until Washington scored the final seven points.
Wisconsin set the tone early by tightening up its defense for its loss at Oregon. They held the Huskies without a field goal for 6 minutes and 4 seconds in the first half, and Carrington made a 3-pointer to take a 17-4 lead with 13 minutes and 28 seconds left.
Steinbach made two foul shots with 6:51 left to put Washington up 22-14, but the Badgers pulled away when Carrington hit a 3-pointer to give Winter a layup and a 27-14 cushion.
Wisconsin went into halftime with a 36-21 lead when Boyd hit a short jumper from the baseline. The Huskies made just 7 of 28 field goals in the first 20 minutes and fell behind 25-17.
Boyd led the way with 14 points in the first half, sinking 7 of 14 shots from the field.
