Mandatory Credit: David Banks-Imagn Image Josh Gidey had a triple-double with 20 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists and Collin Sexton scored a game-high 22 points as the Chicago Bulls halted an 11-game losing streak with a 120-97 win over the visiting Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday.
Chicago earned its first win since January 31 with a 27-0 run through the third and fourth quarters. The Bulls trailed 89-87 entering the fourth quarter before scoring the first 21 points, including seven from Matas Bouzelis.
Sexton scored 14 points after halftime, sparking seven Bulls in double figures. Buzelis scored 20 points and Leonard Miller added a career-high 15 points. They are followed by Tre Jones (13), Guerschon Yabusele (12) and Nick Richards (11).
Bobby Portis led Milwaukee with 18 points. Cam Thomas (15), AJ Green (13), and Ryan Rollins (11) followed. Kyle Kuzma and Kevin Porter Jr. each scored 10 points.
Jericho Sims had 11 rebounds for the Bucks. Rollins had seven assists to go along with seven boards.
Both teams struggled to control the ball. Milwaukee committed 19 turnovers while Chicago had 18. The Bulls managed to make up for a 16-point deficit by taking advantage of the Bucks’ freebies in the early third quarter. Sexton’s jumper with 11:04 left in the fourth inning gave Chicago its first advantage early in the second quarter.
Milwaukee and Chicago traded long scores in the second with the Bucks going into halftime with a 66-51 lead.
After Buzelis’ dunk gave the Bulls a 37-36 lead with 10:14 to play, the Bucks responded with a 17-0 run and appeared to take control. Chicago countered with a 12-2 run to pull within six points before Milwaukee found an answer again.
Green converted a four-point play and later hit another trey as the Bucks scored 11 of their final 14 points to close the second quarter.
Green (13 points) and Thomas (10 points) scored in double figures in the first half for Milwaukee, and Gidey led Chicago with 11 points.
Chicago salvaged the finale of the season’s four-game series with its Central Division rivals, holding an all-time 138-137 advantage over Milwaukee.
Gidi recorded eight triple-doubles this season.
