Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin says an experiment that used artificial intelligence to prototype a blockchain roadmap to 2030 could have lessons for developers in a matter of weeks.
“This is a very impressive experience. Vibe-coding the entire roadmap for 2030 in a matter of weeks,” Buterin posted to X on Saturday, after a developer made a bet with Vitalik in February that one person could use AI to code the implementation of the blockchain roadmap.
Buterin added that AI will “accelerate coding massively” and that people “should be open to the possibility that the Ethereum roadmap will be completed much faster than people expect, with a much higher standard of security than people expect.”
Coding Vibe is where AI creates application code, allowing developers to create software quickly. This practice has become more common as AI models have gotten better at coding; However, some warn that AI-generated code may not be safe.

Vitalik says the AI code has “significant bugs”.
Vitalik said there are “huge caveats” to using AI because the speed at which code can be written means there are “almost certainly a lot of critical bugs and possibly in some cases ‘broken’ versions of something that the AI hasn’t even tried to develop a full version of.”
“But six months ago, even that was out of the realm of possibility, and what matters is where the trend is going,” he said.

Buterin warned that instead of focusing on speed, more attention should be paid to security.
“The right way to use it is to get half the benefit from AI in speed and half the benefit in security: create more test cases, verify everything formally, do multitasking.”
He said he was personally excited by the possibility that error-free code, which had been “considered an idealistic delusion for a long time,” would finally become first possible and “then a mainstream expectation.”
Buterin actively commented on the Ethereum Foundation’s recently published roadmap called “Strawmap”, which shows all the updates planned for the next four years.
He previously proposed plans to make Ethereum quantum-proof, and said on Sunday that account abstraction or smart accounts “will happen within a year.”
