Nostalgia and decay meet drama in Andrew Moore’s dramatic photographs — Colossal

Andrew Moore is known for his atmospheric photographs of landscapes, interiors and city centers that feel mysteriously locked in the not-so-distant past, his enigmatic images inviting us into the passage of time. His scenes, often (but not always) devoid of people, have a timeless charm, as if they could have unfolded at any time over the past few decades. Sometimes it feels like someone just walked by; other times, it’s like no one has seen this scene in years.

In his current solo exhibition, theater, The artist’s photographs of grand staircases, aging stages and ticket booths recall a bygone era in front of the silver screen. Other works such as the Cuban Bar, the Art Restoration Studio and the Grand Staircase emphasize the drama of the architecture and design. Fantastic lighting, shabby furniture and varying degrees of decay evoke a unique sense of nostalgia.

theater The exhibition will continue at Jackson Fine Art through March 21.
