The Pi Network will celebrate 7 years of major ecosystem releases on Pi Day 2026

TLDR:

  • The Pi Token Launchpad Network has launched its MVP on Testnet, which requires projects to have working applications before issuing tokens.
  • The Protocol 20 update gives the Pi blockchain the technical foundation it needs to support smart contract functionality.
  • The first round of KYC validator rewards distributed Pi at 0.0504 Pi per validator, 21 times the base mining rate.
  • Kraken has officially integrated the Pi Network after going through the KYB approval process for the platform exchange.

The Pi Network celebrated its official seventh anniversary on Pi Day 2026 with a wide range of ecosystem releases. Announcements include infrastructure improvements, token launch capabilities, exchange listings, and validator rewards.

These updates expand how developers and developers can contribute and participate in the network. The publications also introduced the Pi Day Utility Challenge, which encourages community involvement in newly available features.

Together, they represent continued progress towards a more widely accessible cryptocurrency platform.

The Launchpad token and protocol improvements drive the ecosystem

The Pi Launchpad MVP has been launched on the Testnet, introducing a structured ecosystem token release mechanism.

Projects using the platform must have working programs in place before the tokens are launched to ensure instant service upon launch.

Pi receives revenue from each token flow into liquidity pools, not directly into the issuer’s project. This approach supports healthy decentralized exchange activity in the Pi ecosystem.

All Pi core nodes have been upgraded to version 20.2, which now supports protocol 20. This update provides the necessary technical foundation to enable smart contract capabilities on the blockchain.

Smart contract categories, including subscriptions, escrow, and NFT-related contracts, are prioritized based on the needs of the service-based product. Several contracts are currently undergoing external testing before moving to Testnet deployment.

PiCoreTeam announced: “Happy Pi Day 2026, the official 7th anniversary of the Pi Network! Today’s releases introduce new ecosystem capabilities and expand how pioneers can build, participate and interact with the Pi.”

Updates to the Pi Wallet and Pi SDK will also follow to support new smart contract functionality. The goal of these changes is to provide seamless integration between chain logic and user-facing applications.

Deployment of smart contracts follows successful Testnet testing and community review. The rate of deployment reflects the actual utility needs arising from the ecosystem.

Second migration, confirmation rewards and Kraken list expand participation

A second migration has begun, allowing previously migrated pioneers to bring additional Pi balance to the Mainnet. Prior to migration, Pioneers must complete two-factor authentication via Step 5 of the Basic Checklist.

This requirement exists because blockchain transactions are permanent and cannot be reversed. Mining bonuses that are tied to KYC approved team members are also included in the second migration.

Pi has distributed the first round of KYC validator rewards, which includes contributions registered until March 5, 2026. The prize pool included 16,568,774 Pi from the displaced pioneers, which was later supplemented by 10 million Pi from the Pi Fund.

Dividing the total pool into 526,970,631 successful confirmations produced a price of about 0.0504 Pi per confirmation. This rate is 21 times higher than the current mining rate, reflecting the scale of the validation work.

More than 1,094,680 human validators have contributed to the KYC process, completing more than half a billion tasks in total.

The Pi Foundation added this period to account for the early tests used to train the validator workforce.

Future award cycles may include additional criteria around validator accuracy and compliance. A new Pi enters the pool and new tests are included in subsequent distributions.

Kraken’s centralized exchange has integrated Pi support after the network’s KYB verification process for external services.

This listing expands access to Pi and connects the network to a wider segment of the crypto market. Third-party platforms that pass Pi’s test requirements may be integrated in the future. This external connection supports the network’s goal of widespread adoption.

Pi App Studio accesses the Mainnet and starts the Utility call

Pi App Studio now supports Mainnet applications and direct Pi payment integration for select specialized applications. Four applications were invited to move from Testnet to Mainnet based on quality, service and ecosystem compatibility.

Creators whose apps meet the eligibility criteria can now receive real Pi payments directly through the blockchain. This transition moves App Studio from an experience to a sustainable revenue stream for creators.

Continuous payment integration is now available within App Studio on both Testnet and Mainnet. Previously, in-app purchases were only valid during an active session and expired when the user logged out.

Now, purchases such as premium access or feature unlocks will be made over multiple future sessions. This allows creators to create longer and more engaging experiences for Pioneers.

The Pi Day Utility Challenge launched alongside these releases, offering developers a structured way to explore new features. The checklist guides users through the ecosystem’s tools, newly released products, and Pi utility applications.

Completing all tasks earns a Pi Day badge that is visible in Pi Chats and Pi Social Profiles. This gamified approach encourages hands-on discovery of the growing range of utilities in the ecosystem.

The anniversary lottery of the Open Network, which was initiated by the initiative of the badge of the community, ended on March 14. A total of 150 winners will be selected at random and contacted via the official Pi support email.

Pioneers are advised to check sender addresses carefully and contact Pi Security Center to avoid scams. Official communications are only available through approved Pi Network channels.
