Defending champion Joaquin Niemann shot 66 to share the lead after round three at LIV Golf Singapore on Saturday.

Chile recorded 7 birdies and 2 bogeys and tied for first place with England’s Lee Westwood (England) at 10 under par, 203 strokes. He is one stroke ahead of second-round leaders Bryson DeChambeau (Canada) and Richard Lee (Canada).

Westwood birdied three of his last four holes at Sentosa Golf Club to finish with a 68, playing harder than he did in his first two rounds.

“I would say it’s a major championship-style golf course. It’s very demanding,” Westwood said. “Even if the rough is not that thick, you have to hit a lot of fairways, and it is difficult to score in the rough. You lack control over the golf ball.”

Niemann agreed with the challenge the course presented.

“I hit the ball really well, I think that’s the key,” Niemann said. “It’s a really stressful golf course. There’s a lot of risk on the tee shot, a lot of water on the second shot. Somehow, after I hit the shot, I feel like the stress is gone. After I hit the tee shot, I feel a little bit of pressure, and when I hit the ball, it flies right where my eyes see, so it’s satisfying.”

DeChambeau did not disappoint, shooting a 65 in the second round and a 1-over 72, despite making bogeys on the eighth, 10th and 12th holes.

“I played really well. The greens on the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th were really slow,” he said. “For some reason, there wasn’t a lot of wind around and I think the greens were slower in that area. I three-putted a few times and it kind of lacked momentum for me. Other than that, I played really good. I played almost as good as I did yesterday, but the conditions just weren’t right.”

Lee, a LIV golf wildcard, birdied the final hole for a 69 and tied with DeChambeau.

Spain’s Jon Rahm shot an even-par 71 to remain three strokes behind the leaders. Mark Leishman (Australia) (71 years old) tied for 6th place with 6 under par.

In the team event, 4Aces topped the leaderboard. Captain Dustin Johnson’s round of 68 put the team at 16 under par, two strokes ahead of Reaper GC and Legion XIII, and Johnson was tied for seventh at 5 under par and 6 strokes.
