Marco Rossi had a goal and two assists, and Brock Boeser and Filip Hronek each had a goal and an assist in regulation for the Canucks, who have lost their fifth straight game on home ice (0-3-2).
Vancouver goalkeeper Nikita Tolopilo did not lose the shootout, with shots from Ryan O’Reilly and Filip Forsberg stopping Steven Stamkos’ high shot to end the game. Tolopilo made 16 saves through regulation and overtime.
Vancouver has lost nine of its previous 10 games (1-6-3), but will now look for back-to-back wins at home for the first time this season when they face the Seattle Kraken on Saturday.
Tyson Jost scored twice, Matthew Wood added one goal and Juuse Saros made 24 saves for the Predators, who will have to make every game count as they battle for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference.
Nashville recorded just three wins (3-4-3) in 10 games.
Rossi scored on a rebound with just over four minutes left in the third to cut the Predators’ lead to 3-2.
With 61 seconds left in regulation, Hronek fired a wrist shot that hit the post and inside, sending the game into overtime.
Saros was stellar early on as the Canucks beat Nashville 12-5 in the opening period, stopping breakaways by Drew O’Connor and Linus Karlsson to keep the score tight.
The Canucks kept the play going for most of the first period, so it was no surprise when they opened the scoring at 8:40 on a double deflection that Boeser last touched down. Hronek sent a shot from the point where it hit teammate Rossi into the front of the net, where Boeser went cleanly through his legs.
Jost got his own rebound and beat a giant Tolopilo during a goalmouth scramble to tie the game 1-1 at 18:28 of the first.
Jost scored his second goal at 5:20 of the middle frame, blasting home a high shot after the puck bounced off the end boards and into the front of the net.
Wood, a rookie forward in Nashville who was playing his first game in his hometown with family and friends watching, scored from a sharp angle at 14:06 of the second period to make it 3-1.
