Noah Laba, who had an empty-net goal, Adam Edstrom, Gabe Perreault, Tye Kartye and Adam Fox also scored for New York (27-30-8). Igor Shersterkin stopped 24 shots.
Gabriel Vilardi, Kyle Connor and Isak Rosen responded for Winnipeg (26-28-10). Connor Hellebuyck made 11 saves in front of just 13,763 fans at the Canada Life Centre.

The Rangers scored a goal 4 minutes and 11 seconds apart in the third quarter to take a 4-3 lead. Adam Edstrom beat Hellebuyck from the front in 11:08.
Perreault gave New York a 4-3 lead when he reached the puck in front of the crease and shoveled it past Hellebuyck at 6:57.
Bilardi made it 3-3 about three minutes after New York took the lead. He attempted an Adam Lowry rebound and then backhanded the puck past Shesterkin.
New York took a 3-2 lead in the top of the third inning. Kartye deflected a pass from Matthew Robertson past Hellebuyck with 1:15 into the frame.
Connor tied the score at 2-2 with a standout individual effort in the bottom of the second. He took a pass from Mark Schiefele, then beat Fox and cleared Shesterkin before lifting the puck over the Rangers’ netminder.
Lafreniere deflected Will Borgen’s point shot past Hellebuyck to give New York a 2-1 lead. This is the 6th goal in the last 5 games and the 9th goal in 10 games.
Rosen, a recently acquired forward, tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the second inning with his first goal as a Jet. Rosen deflected a shot from defenseman Jacob Bryson (another trade deadline acquisition) past Shesterkin from the point.
The Rangers opened the scoring just 68 seconds into the game. Just nine seconds after Winnipeg’s Gabe Vilardi received a hooking penalty, Fox unleashed a slapshot from the blue line that deflected Hellebuyck over his right shoulder.
Shesterkin stopped Jonathan Toews on a breakaway about two minutes after scoring the first goal.
It was Jets defenseman Dylan DeMelo’s 700th career NHL game.
It was New York defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov’s 500th game.
Jets: The Rangers continued to rallied after taking a one-point lead, but were unable to cover the players up front and paid the price.
Rangers: Each time Winnipeg tied the score, New York took advantage of getting players in front of the goal and took the lead again, leading 1-0, 2-1, 3-2, and 4-3.
Edstrom dashed Winnipeg’s dwindling playoff hopes by giving New York a 5-3 lead at 11:08 of the third period.
The Rangers scored five goals on just 16 shots.
