The NFL’s new league year is here, and now teams have a full week to officially work out what they’ve agreed to. This includes free agent signings and trades.
One of those trades sent All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Miami Dolphins to the New York Jets. As part of the deal, Fitzpatrick also signed a new three-year, $40 million contract.

Fitzpatrick met with New York media for the first time on Thursday. The normally reserved safety quickly went viral after his press conference.
A reporter asked a New Jersey native about returning to the area. Fitzpatrick responded, “I’m glad to be here and I’m glad to be home.” But a freeze frame of that moment told a slightly different story, at least on social media.
User X captured the frame and posted it along with a quote from Fitzpatrick from the Jets’ official press conference broadcast.

Many people found the post humorous. In reality, Fitzpatrick has a calm and reserved demeanor off the field, but he competes intensely.

The Dolphins originally drafted Fitzpatrick in 2018. He later rose to prominence after a trade sent him to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he served as a secondary player from 2019 to 2024.
While in Pittsburgh, the 29-year-old earned three Pro Bowl selections and five All-Pro honors. The Steelers traded him back to Miami last season in a deal that sent Jalen Ramsey to Pittsburgh.
Fitzpatrick played high school football in Jersey City, New Jersey before committing to Alabama Crimson Tide football.
