In an interview with American political activist and commentator Tucker Carlson, Douglas Macgregor, a retired colonel in the United States Army, said that the continued involvement of the United States in the Israel-Iran War will have serious economic consequences. He also suggested that the United States should find a mediator like Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Macgregor and Carlson were discussing the possible consequences of America’s involvement in the war. The clip, widely shared online, shows Carlson asking Macgregor how the United States could get out of what he described as the “Iran war.”

Suggesting Modi as a mediator, Macgregor said: “You can say well, he was just in Israel. That’s fine. He has good relations with Israel; that’s not a bad thing. He also has good relations with Iran… and reasonable relations with the Chinese.”

He added: “Historically he is leading a neutral state that is growing in stature, in power and in influence; we should recognize that and welcome it and not treat it as a problem. And I think President Trump should talk to him and tell him that we have to put an end to this.”

According to Macgregor, the escalation of hostilities could cause dramatic disruptions in global markets and energy prices. “Someone will say, why stop this? Because if we don’t, we’re going to hit $300 a barrel of oil. We’re going to see 60% to 80% of stock values fall. People are going to lose trillions of wealth. It’s going to be a disaster, and it’s not something we’re going to recover from,” he said in the video.

Macgregor further argued that the situation carries multiple risks if tensions rise further.

“We’ve thrown caution to the wind. Think about the worst-case scenarios, they’re on the horizon,” he said.

During the debate, Macgregor also referred to the role of the American president in making decisions regarding the conflict. Mentioning Donald Trump, he said the president’s responsibility is to weigh the domestic consequences of foreign policy decisions.

“President Trump is still president of the United States, not president of Israel,” Macgregor said.

He added that the president must consider the impact of the ongoing conflict on Americans at home. “You have to think about the consequences here at home for us, for the average man, not for the billionaire class, not for the Epstein class.”
