Claude will automatically determine when a request could benefit from a visual aid and generate diagrams, charts or tables within the conversation. Views appear within chat rather than in Claude’s sidebar artifacts, which are typically opened separately and left for users to interact with, share, or download.
Anthropic shared several examples that demonstrate the capabilities of this feature, including diagrams explaining structural loads in civil engineering problems, visual guides for students exploring potential academic majors, and shadow mapping for neighborhood planning. Users can interact with these visualizations in real-time as part of a conversation, providing clearer visual context for complex topics.
While Claude can automatically decide when a visualization can help clarify a response, users can also directly ask the chatbot to generate charts, tables, or graphs within the chat.
The launch comes as AI companies expand the visualization capabilities of their assistants. Earlier this week, OpenAI introduced the ChatGPT feature, which generates interactive visualizations for math and science concepts.
Anthropic said the visualization feature is rolling out to all Cloud users and is enabled by default.
