The ship was heading to Kandla in India, MEA confirmed. (Photo: X) A Thai-flagged ship named Mayuree Naree was hit by “two projectiles of unknown origin” while sailing through the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, causing a fire and damaging the engine room.
Precious Shipping, the ship’s Thai-listed operator, said in a statement: “Three crew members are missing and believed to be trapped in the engine room.” Reuters reported.
The Indian government has confirmed that the ship was heading to Kandla in India. The government further added, “India deplores the fact that commercial shipping is becoming a target of military attacks in the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Precious lives, including those of Indian citizens, have already been lost in multiple such attacks in the earlier phase of this conflict and the intensity and lethality of the attacks only appear to be increasing.”

“India reiterates that attacking commercial shipping and endangering innocent civilian crew, or otherwise impeding freedom of navigation and trade, should be avoided,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in the statement.
The shipping company, providing an update on the crew members, said: “The company is working with the relevant authorities to rescue these three missing crew members.”
The Thai Navy provided images of the ship that showed smoke billowing from the rear of the ship. The Royal Thai Navy said in a statement that 23 Thai crew members were on board.

Thai authorities reported that the Oman navy rescued 20 crew members and is “in the process of rescuing” the other three members who were aboard the ship. The Thai navy also added that it received a report that a ship had been hit at around 11 a.m., although it did not specify the time zone.

Thai authorities added that the ship was attacked after it left the port of Khalifa in the United Arab Emirates several hours earlier. bbc reported. The cause of the attack remains under investigation.
In an official notification, the Precious Shipping company stated that they are currently coordinating with the relevant authorities to repatriate the crew to Thailand.
“The Company is working with the relevant authorities to rescue these three missing crew members. The remaining twenty crew members have been safely evacuated and are now grounded in Oman. The Company continues to closely monitor the security situation in high-risk areas and will review its navigation risk management procedures as appropriate,” the statement added.
