The Baltimore Ravens should be ashamed of themselves.
But that’s not the case.
On Tuesday evening, the Las Vegas Raiders released an irate statement announcing that the Ravens had walked away from a blockbuster trade for defensive end Maxx Crosby.
The Raiders were scheduled to receive two first-round selections from Baltimore, an organization that has never traded a first-round pick for a player. However, the Ravens decided to fail Crosby’s physical, voiding the deal and sending shockwaves through the NFL.
According to NFL insider Dianna Russini, the belief around the league is that the Ravens got buyer’s remorse and decided to reject the deal.
On Wednesday morning, the Ravens added insult to injury by signing former Cincinnati Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson to a four-year contract.
In summary, the Ravens retained all of their first-round draft picks while getting other top defensive results in free agency. Are you feeling bad? Feeling shady? That’s why.
No NFL team should do a trade with the Ravens as long as Eric DeCosta is the team’s general manager.
Of course, the deal wasn’t official until the new league year began Wednesday at 4 PM ET. But to back out of a deal of this magnitude and let buyer’s remorse fail the player’s physical issues? It’s really unfortunate.
On Tuesday night, Crosby posted a photo on his Instagram of himself aboard a private jet, likely leaving Baltimore after receiving news of a failed physical. He’ll be back with the Raiders, who don’t have nearly the same trade interest as before. In fact, several teams expect the Raiders to be the team that has to make the call to move Crosby again.
That’s because NFL teams spent billions of dollars on free-agent signings between Sunday night, when the trade was agreed to, and Tuesday night, when it fell through. For example, the Dallas Cowboys were initially interested in trading Crosby. They offered more than a first-round pick but lost to the Ravens, who offered two.
now? The Cowboys are not interested in trading Crosby. It’s not that I’m afraid of his medical care. But that’s because they added another piece in free agency to make up for it, switching to a trade with the Green Bay Packers for defensive end Rashan Gary.
The Ravens absolutely trashed the Raiders. They also put Crosby in a very uncomfortable situation.
But they don’t care. They are conducting business as usual.
They didn’t even make a statement, but they continued to steal draft picks, adding Hendrickson to a major trade. shameful.
