Alexis Lafreniere had a hat trick and goalie Jonathan Quick recorded his 65th career shutout as the host New York Rangers beat the struggling Calgary Flames 4-0 on Tuesday.

Connor Sherry also scored and Mika Zibanejad collected two assists to give him five points (two goals, three assists) in two outings. Gabe Perreault also had a pair of assists.

Quick, who made 21 saves to record his second shutout of the season, wasn’t as busy as his opponent, but turned away a pair of point-blank opportunities in the third period when he shut out Matt Coronato.

The Rangers sit last in the Eastern Conference but have posted a record of 4-1-2 in their last seven away games.

Dustin Wolf stopped 26 shots for the Flames, who have the league’s worst road record and are ahead of the Vancouver Canucks in the overall standings.

During a low-key opening period of the event, Lafreniere opened the scoring during a 5-on-3 power play by deftly redirecting a pass from Zibanejad’s shot at the 17:27 mark.

With their help, Zibanejad recorded his 800th career point and Adam Fox, who was originally drafted by the Flames, collected his 400th career point.

Sheary’s second goal of the season, a tap-in set by a slick pass from Tye Kartye, doubled New York’s lead at 10:28 of the second period.

Lafreniere made it 3-0 four minutes later with another wide opportunity, converting when he was left alone by the net and set up by Perreault.

Lafreniere completed his second career hat trick with a one-timer to cap off a 2-on-1 rush against Perreault with 2 minutes, 18 seconds left in the game. Lafrenière has five goals and four assists in his last five games.

Calgary dropped its first two clashes in a five-game road swing and has just four wins in 16 outings (4-9-3).
