Mandatory Credit: Brett Davis-Imagn Images Jalen Johnson scored 13 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter to help the Atlanta Hawks snap their seventh straight win with a 124-112 victory over the visiting Dallas Mavericks.
With the win, Atlanta broke a four-game losing streak against Dallas and gave the Mavericks an eight-game losing streak, their longest since 2016-17. The seven-game winning streak is Atlanta’s longest streak since the 2021-22 season.
With the score tied at 97-97, Johnson added a 3-pointer to put Atlanta ahead 105-99, preventing the Hawks from blowing an 18-point lead in the second half.
Atlanta got 29 points from Nickale Alexander-Walker, who made back-to-back 3-pointers late in the fourth quarter to put the game away. Onyeka Okongwu had 18 points with nine rebounds and Dyson Daniels had 14 points and 10 assists.
Dallas scored 21 points with Klay Thompson coming off the bench and hitting five 3-pointers. Khris Middleton scored 16 points and Cooper Flagg, Daniel Gafford and Najee Marshall each had 14 points. Flagg added 12 rebounds and five assists.
The Hawks got off to another fast start, racing to a 10-2 lead en route to a 40-26 advantage after one quarter.
The Mavericks used a 9-1 spurt in the second quarter to get closer to 45-39. Atlanta coach Quin Snyder called a timeout and the Hawks responded with six straight points to restore a 12-point lead. Atlanta led 64-53 at halftime.
The Hawks were unable to shake the Mavs in the third quarter. They took an 18-point lead at 5:08, but Dallas used a 20-6 run to cut the lead to 93-89 on Thompson’s 3-pointer with 1:01 to play. Atlanta led 95-91 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Mavs tied the game at 97-97 with 9:02 left on a Middleton bucket.
Atlanta played without Jonathan Cuminga for the third straight game due to a left kneecap contusion.
