Mandatory Credit: William Purnell-Imagn Image Anthony Roy poured in 24 points, Christian Coleman had an impressive performance with 17 points and 14 rebounds, and 14-seeded Oklahoma State cruised to a 92-83 victory over 11-seeded Colorado in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament on Tuesday night at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Cowboys (19-13) face 6-seed TCU on Wednesday night.
Jaylen Curry added 15 points and five rebounds for the Cowboys, who won the rebounding battle 44-34 and outscored the Buffaloes 40-30 in the paint, giving them a decisive advantage inside.
Oklahoma State overcame a slow start to fall behind by nine points early in the first half and then had nine lead changes. The Cowboys went on a 12-2 run on Isaiah Coleman’s layup at the 7:40 mark to take a 25-24 lead and a 41-40 lead at halftime.
Oklahoma State stayed in the lead throughout the second half, allowing a 7-0 spurt. The period ended with a 3-pointer from Roy to put the Cowboys ahead 48-40 with 17:42 to play.
Oklahoma State extended its lead to 12 points on Kanye Clary’s 3 with 6:06 to play to take a 76-64 lead. The Cowboys took a 14-point lead on Christian Coleman’s alley-oop dunk for an 85-71 win with just over two minutes remaining.
Oklahoma State also held a 20-point advantage at the free throw line, going 29-of-35 compared to Colorado’s 9-of-16. The Cowboys also doubled the Buffaloes in bench points, 28-14.
Colorado was led by Bangot Dak, who recorded 22 points and 8 rebounds. Barrington Hargress finished with 18 points and nine assists and Isaiah Johnson added 14 points with three rebounds and four assists for the Buffaloes.
Colorado fell to 17-15 on the season and missed the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.
