The Lakers caught the Wolves in the standings thanks to Luka Doncic’s triple-double.

Luka Doncic had 31 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists as the Los Angeles Lakers cruised to a 120-106 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday in a game against Western Conference teams with promising playoff berths.

Austin Reaves scored 31 points and DeAndre Ayton added 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Lakers, who tied the Timberwolves with a 40-25 win. Los Angeles maintained the West tiebreaker in fourth place thanks to sweeping the season’s three-game series.

Los Angeles won for the sixth time in its last seven games and shot 48.4 percent from the floor. The Lakers have won each of their last three games without LeBron James (hip/foot).

Anthony Edwards scored 14 points for the Timberwolves while shooting 2 of 15 from the floor and 1 of 10 from 3-point range. Juluis Randle also scored 14 points and Naz Reid and Ayo Dosunmu added 13 each as Minnesota lost its second straight following a five-game winning streak.

The Timberwolves shot 46.2 percent from the floor in the opener of a four-game road trip that ends Sunday with a visit to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Los Angeles outscored Minnesota 39-23 in the third quarter and took an 84-68 lead. The Timberwolves didn’t score their third field goal until Reed sank a floater with 5:58 left in the period.

Reaves scored 16 points in the third and Doncic added 14 for the Lakers, who went on a 13-4 run to take a 67-54 lead.

With anger rising between the teams, Donte DiVincenzo’s dunk put the Timberwolves up 99-84 with 7:08 left and back-to-back 3-pointers by Marcus Smart and Doncic put the Lakers up 105-84 with 6:30 left.

The Lakers scored only 16 points with a 28.0% shooting rate in the first quarter, but pulled up to 45-45 at halftime.

Randle scored 12 first-half points for Minnesota, while Edwards was 0 from 3-point range and had 3 points on 10-of-10 shooting. Ayton had 12 points with 11 rebounds at the break for Los Angeles, while Doncic also had 12 points en route to his seventh triple-double of the season.
