VANCOUVER — Shay Maloney scored 41 seconds into overtime and the Boston Fleet beat the Vancouver Goldeneyes 2-1 on Tuesday.
Most of the Professional Women’s Hockey League games were goalie duels, with neither side scoring until the third period.
Haley Winn was the first to put Fleet (9-4-2-2) on the board early in the final frame with her second goal of the year.
Hannah Miller responded for the Goldeneyes (5-1-3-9) at the 16:34 mark of the inning, scoring past Boston goalie Aerin Frankel just inside the blue line.
Frankel stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced as the team won its sixth straight game (2-4-0-0). Boston’s last loss came on January 11, when the Ottawa Charge won 2-1 in a penalty shootout.
Kristen Miller made 25 saves in net for Vancouver.
The win puts Fleet top of the league standings, two points ahead of Montreal Victoire.
Golden Eyes: He continued to apply pressure after Boston’s goal and created ample opportunities, but was unable to get a shot past Frankel until Miller’s strike late in the third. … Vancouver was without goalie Emerans Maschmeier, who has been sidelined for consecutive days with an upper-body injury. Kimberly Newell served as Campbell’s backup.
Fleet: Assisted the goalie with 15 blocked shots throughout the game. … Was solid on the faceoff dot, winning 52.2% of his battles in the dot during regulation.
Susanna Tapani slid a pass to an unmarked Winn, and the U.S. defender took a few steps before firing a shot past Campbell from inside the faceoff circle at 3:19 of the third period. The goal was Winn’s second of the season.
Neither team was able to capitalize on the power play, with Boston going 0-for-2 and Vancouver going 0-for-3.
