US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he may be “willing to talk to Iran” as the war in West Asia escalates amid continued US and Israeli attacks on Tehran and the Islamic nation continues its retaliatory attack on Gulf countries in the region.

This comes after Trump previously warned Iran that if it closes the Strait of Hormuz to oil tankers, the US military would hit it much harder. In a post on Truth Social, the US president also said he prayed that would never happen.

“If Iran does anything to stop the flow of oil within the Strait of Hormuz, the United States of America will hit it TWENTY TIMES HARDER than they have hit it so far,” Trump said.

Trump, in an interview with CBS NewsHe said he believes the war is “very complete, practically” and that he has no message for Iran’s new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who was elected by the Tehran council after US and Israeli strikes killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Trump also said he is considering seizing the Strait of Hormuz, which is a key point through which about 20% of the world’s oil passes, and which has been disrupted by war.

During a news conference Tuesday from his Miami-area golf club, President Trump said he expects the war to end “very soon,” as benchmark oil prices soared above $100 a barrel for the first time since 2022 as fears of war between the United States and Israel linger.

In response to Iran’s retaliatory attacks against Gulf countries in West Asia, Trump said: “One of the things that surprised me the most was when they attacked countries that weren’t attacking them.”

The US military launched Operation Epic Fury in alliance with Israel against Iran after negotiations between Washington and Tehran over the future of the latter’s nuclear program failed.
