Mandatory Credit: Matthew Hinton-Imagn Image Trey Murphy III knocked down 4 of 9 3-pointers en route to 24 points, Sadiq Bey had a 23-point, 10-rebound double-double and the New Orleans Pelicans defeated the visiting Washington Wizards 138-118 on Sunday.
Murphy led New Orleans to a 12-0 victory in the fourth quarter with a pair of 3-pointers. The game went into overtime, giving the Pelicans a 22-point advantage.
Murphy was one of five Pelicans to score at least 18 points, a group of five that included Jeremiah Fears, who had 18 points. Fear powered another key New Orleans play to close out the third quarter, with a pair of layups (1, 1, 1) and dishing assists from Derik Queen and Bryce McGowens.
Fear contributing at every point of the surge carried New Orleans into the final period with an advantage that would never fall below eight points the rest of the way. He also had a team-high seven assists along with five rebounds.
Zion Williamson scored 20 points in the win, the Pelicans’ 21st win of the season matching his 2024-25 total, and had eight points on 11 free throw attempts. His team-high at the charity stripe led New Orleans by 37 points, a Pelicans record for points scored from the free throw line.
Dejounte Murray added 19 points and six rebounds, seven on nine foul attempts. Queen rounded out New Orleans’ double-digit scorers with 13 points.
In the Washington team’s second game of an eight-game losing streak, Trae Young scored 17 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor and dished out a game-high eight assists.
Young was limited to 18 minutes, as the Wizards bench scored 59 reserve points in long minutes. Will Riley led the bench with 19 points, one of starter Tre Johnson’s team-high 20 points. Anthony Gill scored 11 points, going 5 of 7 from the floor, and Jaden Hardy added 10 points.
Sunday’s contest marked the start of a four-game road swing for the Wizards.
