A U.S.-sanctioned Palau-flagged oil tanker was hit while off Oman’s Musandam Peninsula on Sunday, injuring four people, Oman’s maritime security center said, but it stopped short of providing specific details of what actually hit the ship.

The 20-person crew of the tanker Skylight was evacuated after the attack involving 15 Indian citizens and five Iranians, the country’s maritime security center reported in a message on Day X. The incident occurred 5 nautical miles north of the port of Khasab in Musandam, in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

The publication further added, “The entire crew of twenty, comprising fifteen Indian nationals and five Iranian nationals, have been safely evacuated. Preliminary reports indicate that four crew members sustained injuries of varying degrees and have been transported for necessary medical attention.”

The attack on the ship follows drone attacks elsewhere in the Gulf nation, including the attack on the commercial port of Duqm in the Arabian Sea.

It is the first time an oil tanker has been attacked in or near Oman following a barrage of retaliatory strikes launched by Tehran after the United States and Israel jointly led attacks on the Islamic nation and plunged the region into a new war.
