“Iranian aggression randomly bombs civilian targets and causes material damage to a water desalination plant following a drone attack,” the ministry statement said.

Iran said it was the United States that set a precedent for such attacks when it attacked a water desalination plant on Iranian soil.

“The United States committed a flagrant and desperate crime by attacking a freshwater desalination plant on Qeshm Island,” Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a post on X on Saturday.

“The water supply in 30 villages has been affected. Attacking Iran’s infrastructure is a dangerous measure with serious consequences. The United States set this precedent, not Iran.”

The roughly 400 plants in the Gulf states, which run primarily on oil and gas, produce about 40 percent of the world’s desalinated water. It is estimated that Bahrain generates most of its drinking water from such plants.

In a separate announcement, Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said three people were injured and a university building in northern Bahrain was damaged when fragments of an Iranian missile landed there.

Sirens were activated in the Muharraq area in the morning, alerting the public to take shelter, the ministry said on Day X.

The injuries and damage occurred when debris from the missile landed near a university building in Muharraq.

Attacks on Kuwait

Iran has made extensive use of drones in the war against the United States and Israel, which is in its ninth day.

Kuwait’s military said Sunday that its air defense systems intercepted more missiles and drones from Iran.

“Kuwaiti air defenses are currently conducting hostile missile and drone strikes,” the military said in a post on X.

Fuel tanks at Kuwait’s international airport were the target of a drone attack, the military said. Kuwait’s official news agency said a fire at the airport was controlled and no “significant injuries” were reported.

The military called the Iranian drone attack “a direct target against vital infrastructure.”

A separate statement said that “some civilian facilities suffered material damage as a result of falling fragments and debris from interception operations.”

Separately, the country’s Interior Ministry said two of its agents died “while carrying out their duties.” He did not provide details about the circumstances of their deaths.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned on Sunday that Iran would be “forced to respond” against neighboring countries if its territory is used to attack it.

On Saturday, the Iranian leader apologized to neighboring countries that host US military bases for attacks on their territory.

He later said his comments were “misinterpreted by the enemy who seeks to sow division between neighbors,” state television reported on Sunday, after they were seen as a decision to suspend attacks on Gulf countries as long as the attacks did not stop.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar also reported more Iranian attacks on Saturday and Sunday.
