Darrion Reid’s 3-pointer with 11 seconds left in overtime proved to be the dagger, and Nigel Pack scored 23 points as Oklahoma edged Texas 88-85 in the team’s regular-season finale on Saturday in Austin, Texas.

The Sooners (17-14, 7-11 Southeastern Conference) entered the league tournament with the momentum of securing a berth in the NCAA Tournament with four straight wins.

Oklahoma, the 11th seed, will face South Carolina, the 14th seed, in the opening game of the SEC Tournament in Nashville, Tennessee, on the 11th. The 10th-seeded Longhorns (18-13, 9-9) will face 15th-seeded Ole Miss in the first round.

After trailing by 12 points in the second half, Texas pulled back to win 77-77 on Jordan Pope’s three free throws with 3.6 seconds left.

In overtime, Pack’s two free throws with 3:05 left gave the Sooners an 81-79 lead. Pope gave Texas a one-point lead with his second 3-pointer with 1:18 left, and Oklahoma went back in front 14 seconds later on a putback tip-in by Mohamed Wague.

Reid added to the lead with a jumper from beyond the arc, and the Pack closed out the Longhorns with another free throw.

Xzayvier Brown added 21 points for the Sooners, Tae Davis had 14 and Reid had 11.

Pope led Texas with 30 points. Dailyn Swain had 18 points, Tramon Mark had 17 and Matas Vokietaitis had 11 for Texas, which is considered a comfortable berth in the NCAA Tournament as an at-large invitee.

Texas took a four-point lead at halftime before the Sooners made five straight shots to go up 69-57, the last of which was a Brown 3-pointer with 6 minutes, 58 seconds left to make the score 14-2. The Longhorns responded when Mark converted two free throws with 27.9 seconds to play and three more with 15.6 seconds left to make it a one-point game.

Davis hit both of his first-and-1 free throw opportunities with 14.3 seconds remaining to extend the Sooners’ lead to three and set the stage for Pope to tie the game from the charity line.

Pope led all scorers with 16 points before halftime and Brown paced the Sooners with 12 points.

Oklahoma jumped out to a lead five minutes into the second half, taking a 48-47 lead when Davis made one of two free throws at the 14:52 mark.
