Olympic hero Jack Hughes recorded his fourth career hat trick and second of the season to lead the New Jersey Devils to a 6-3 win over the New York Rangers on Saturday in Newark, New Jersey.

Hughes, who also had an assist, scored one of the Devils’ three power-play goals before converting a breakaway with 3:04 left in the third period. He completed his hat trick by scoring into an empty net with 32 seconds left.

New Jersey’s Jesper Bratt had a goal and two assists, while captain Nico Hischier and Dawson Mercer also scored.

Jacob Markstrom went 3-for-3 on the power play and made 17 saves for the Devils, who have won their fourth straight game.

New York’s Will Cuylle scored his third goal in two games, defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov scored for the third straight game and fellow blueliner Will Borgen also scored.

Jonathan Quick gave up 29 shots for the Rangers, who reside in the basement of the Eastern Conference and have lost 15 of their last 19 games (4-12-3).

Bratt’s shot from the point didn’t go through, but Hischier was quick to land the puck and slot it past Quick, who was on a screen, to give New Jersey a 4-3 lead. Hischier’s goal was his team-leading 21st of the season.

A traffic stop by Hughes gave the Devils a 3-2 lead with 4:08 left in the second period, and Cuylle tied it 61 seconds later after deflecting Braden Schneider’s shot off the point.

Tanner Glass deftly slid a cross-slot dish pass into the right circle for Bratt, who put a shot past Quick 66 seconds into the game.

Borgen leveled the contest at 6:26 of the first period after a wrist shot from the top of the left circle went through traffic and past Markstrom.

Gavrikov gave New York a 2-1 lead just 2:10 into the game after a shot from the point sailed over Markstrom’s glove.

Mercer extended his stick to deflect defenseman Luke Hughes’ shot off the point, tying the game at 2-2 with 13 seconds left in the first period.
