Maxi Moralez scored on a penalty kick and had two assists in a dominant first half, Keaton Parks scored twice in the top of the second and New York City FC continued its success in its home opener with a 5-0 win over Orlando City at Yankee Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

NYCFC (2-0-1, 7 points) improved to 9-1-2 in its home opener and earned its seventh clean sheet in a home opener, playing the final 70-plus minutes with the man advantage. NYCFC has scored five goals in a home opener for just the second time in team history (also vs. FC Cincinnati in 2021).

Agustin Ojeda scored in the 21st minute after Orlando goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau was tossed and shown a red card for handling the ball outside the box. Crepeau’s sending off forced Orlando to select Javier Otero and play the remainder of the game with 10 players.

Nicolas Fernandez scored in the 42nd minute, drawing a foul from Orlando’s Luis Ottavio, which led to Morales’ penalty kick goal.

Morales marked the fifth career game with at least three goals since he had three assists against FC Cincinnati on June 29, 2022.

Parks added to the rout by scoring five minutes apart early in the second half after two poor clearances by Orlando. NYCFC almost scored a sixth goal, but Talles Magno was flagged for offside in the 74th minute.

New York’s dominant offensive play led them to possession for 68.2% of the contest and goaltender Matt Freese had to make just one save. Freese’s only save came on a Duncan McGuire shot in the 51st minute, two minutes after Parks scored his first goal.

Orlando (0-3-0) is coming off a three-game start without a win for the first time in team history, losing 11-3 to Inter Miami and the New York Red Bulls.

Shortly after Crepo’s sending off, NYCFC regained possession, and after four passes, Ojeda received a pass from Morales and fired an off-balance right-footed shot into the goal from close range.

NYCFC added two goals in the 42nd when Fernandez received a pass from Morales and headed it past Otero in the penalty area. In the 7th minute of extra time in the first half, Morales easily completed a penalty kick to make it 3-0.
