US President Donald Trump wants to support the security of cryptocurrencies, including in a post-quantum world.
President Trump released his “National Cyber Strategy” on Friday, telling Americans he will make sure the US remains “unmatched in cyberspace.”
“Every American should take practical steps to protect themselves and their families in cyberspace, but American citizens are not alone,” the White House document said.

“President Trump has demonstrated time and time again that he is determined to make Americans safe and prosperous by leveraging all of our comparative advantages.”
The strategy comes as the crypto industry’s biggest players debate whether mainstream protocols like Bitcoin should prepare for a time when quantum computers could breach their security.
A post-quantum world soon?
The White House document says the Trump administration will “build secure technologies and supply chains that protect user privacy from design to deployment, including supporting the security of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies.”
“We will promote the adoption of post-quantum cryptography and quantum computing,” it adds.
Quantum researchers have warned that there will come a time when Bitcoin’s software, which underpins the world’s largest and most powerful computer network, will need to be upgraded to cope with quantum computing.
Quantum computers may still be theoretical, but some say their development could be unexpected – just like advances with artificial intelligence.
Some in the crypto industry, such as Bitcoin Treasury co-founder Michael Saylor, said that while developers should be prepared, warnings are overblown.
But the community behind Ethereum, the protocol behind the second-largest cryptocurrency by market value, is already making progress: project co-founder Vitalik Buterin in February proposed a quantum “roadmap” to protect the blockchain from decryption computers.
Pro-crypto executive orders
The strategy comes as Trump signed an executive order to combat cybercrime on Friday.
Trump, who campaigned on a ticket to help the digital asset industry, signed a series of executive orders targeting the crypto space.
Last year, the president signed an executive order establishing a strategic Bitcoin reserve.
The U.S. government isn’t buying much bitcoin — at least not yet — and the stockpile includes crypto that’s mostly been seized from crimes.
And in one of his first actions since taking office, Trump signed an executive order requiring a major overhaul of crypto policy — including a ban on central bank digital currencies, or CBDCs.
