Following fresh military attacks launched by the United States and Israel, the Indian embassy in Iran issued an advisory to all its citizens in Iran to be extremely cautious and stay home. The notice stated that most of the Indian students residing in Tehran were relocated to safer places and provided with transportation, food and accommodation.

“In view of the developing situation, all Indian citizens in Iran are advised to exercise utmost caution, avoid unnecessary movements and stay home to the extent possible,” the Indian embassy advisory stated.

Amid the chaos, an estimated nine thousand Indians reside in Iran and are at risk.

Students still in Tehran

According to the statement, few students rejected the Embassy’s evacuation option and decided to remain in Tehran.

Indian citizens and students have been asked to stay inside and away from windows as long as conditions do not change. If necessary, avoid protest areas and remain in constant touch with the Indian Embassy in Iran, the advisory said.

The embassy also said that Indians are asked to stay up to date with the news, be aware of their surroundings and wait for further guidance from the Indian mission in Tehran.

Israel and the United States jointly launched a major missile airstrike against Iran on February 28, 2026, after which Iran launched a major attack on US bases in the Middle East region. Israel, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar became Iran’s retaliation targets.
