The Seattle Sounders continue their longest road trip in club history when they visit St. Louis City SC on Saturday night.

Seattle (1-1-0, 3 points) opened the season with a 2-0 win over the visiting Colorado Rapids on Feb. 22. The Sounders then lost 2-1 at Real Salt Lake last week to start their five league games away as Lumen Field is being upgraded in preparation for hosting this summer’s FIFA World Cup.

The Sounders will not play another home game until April 12 when they host Real Salt Lake in their newly installed stadium. This brings six of Seattle’s next seven games to Lumen Field.

Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer was asked what his team’s goals are for Saturday’s game.

“The goal is to accumulate points,” Schmetzer said. “It’s difficult to win on the road. The game against RSL was probably one of our better games, although it wasn’t the result. But the football was good and we need to finish the game on the road. So the goal is to leave St. Louis with a few points.”

St. Louis (0-1-1, 1 point) opened the season with a 1-1 draw at home against Charlotte FC and lost 2-0 to San Diego FC last week.

The first-year St. Louis star has been an assistant for the Columbus Crew under Wilfried Nancy for the past three years. St. Louis coach Yoann Damet blamed his team’s loss on a slow start.

Anders Dreyer scored in the third minute to give San Diego the lead, and Marcus Ingvartsen added another goal in the 54th minute to tie the game. St. Louis shot just 34.4 percent of the contest while being outshot 10-6, and San Diego had just two corner kicks to go for seven.

“I think we lacked a little bit of faith and a little bit of energy the way we came out,” Damet said. “That was the message at halftime, that was the message at the end. We had too much respect for them.”
