Cardinals general manager Monty Ossenfort said he spoke with Kyler Murray at the NFL Combine on Tuesday about how last season went. However, according to sources, the two have not actually spoken since the end of the season.
That’s a pretty significant disconnect.
When asked if he sat down with Murray to discuss what happened last year and what the quarterback wants to do moving forward, Ossenfort said he did.
“Yes, I always had good conversations with Kyler,” Ossenfort said. “And (last season) wasn’t what Kyler wanted. It wasn’t what we all wanted as a season.”
He went on to add: “So when you have a year like the one we had, there’s a lot of room for improvement. So we’ve got to find a way to do that at that position, every position. And that’s what we’re all focused on, getting better and moving forward.”
Sources told ESPN that wasn’t the case.
Murray only played in the next game. five games Last season. He injured his foot in Week 5 against Tennessee and landed on injured reserve in early November. Even after becoming eligible to return from IR in early December, then-coach Jonathan Gannon announced that Murray would not play for the remainder of the year.
After that injury, questions began to rise about Murray’s future in Arizona.
The Cardinals have about three weeks to decide if Murray is their player in 2026. If he is placed on the active roster on the fifth day of the league year, Murray will receive a guaranteed roster bonus. $19.5 million 2027.
Ossenfort said Tuesday that conversations about Murray’s future happen “every day.”
He also reiterated what he and Murray said during the team’s end-of-season press conference in January: “All options are on the table for us.” Ossenport pointed out that Murray, along with Jacoby Brissett and Kedon Slovis, are all under contract until 2026.
“We will look at every way we can improve and we will continue to move forward with the process,” Ossenfort said Tuesday.
