One of the most notable stories from the NHL trade deadline was not the trade that happened, but the trade that didn’t happen. Alberta, Alberta defenseman Colton Parayko said he was playing for St. Louis. blocked a trade that would have seen him move from the St. Louis Blues to the Buffalo Sabres.
The Sabers acquired three players at the trade deadline through deals with the Winnipeg Jets and New York Rangers. Let’s take a look at who they acquired.
Sam Carrick

Carrick, of Markham, Ontario, was traded from the New York Rangers to the Sabers for a 2026 third- and sixth-round pick. Carrick joins his sixth NHL franchise after spending two seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs, six seasons with the Anaheim Ducks, one season with the Edmonton Oilers and two seasons with the New York Rangers.
In 60 games with the Rangers this season, Carrick has four goals and six assists for 10 points. He is -2 with 53 penalty minutes, 1 shorthanded point, 56 on goal, 214 faceoff wins, 29 blocked shots, 86 hits, 10 takeaways and 24 giveaways.
Carrick’s lack of scoring came in the Rangers’ 6-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on October 11. Carrick set up Sweden Huddinge’s Mika Zibanejad at 7:40 of the first period to open the scoring.
logan stanley

Stanley recorded 9 goals and 12 assists for 21 points in 59 games. He was a -2 with 99 penalty minutes and 96 hits. Ironically, a real argument could be made that Stanley is a more defensive-minded blueliner than Parayko.
The Blues have struggled more than the Jets this season. One of the Blues’ best defenders who deserves some criticism is Parayko, who is -14 and has just one goal this season. Parayko also had only 67 hits, 29 fewer than Stanley.
Luke Shen

Schenn joins his 10th NHL franchise after previously playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks, Arizona Coyotes, Nashville Predators, Tampa Bay Lightning, Winnipeg Jets, Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks. In 46 games, Shen has one goal and six assists for seven points.
Schenn and Stanley were traded from the Jets to the Sabers for right winger Isak Rosen, defenseman Jacob Bryson, a 2026 fourth-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick.
